IMPORTANT DMV WAIVER UPDATE: The DMV now requires applicants to pass the SC motorcycle permit test before processing DMV waiver paperwork earned through this course.
It’s best to obtain a motorcycle permit from the DMV before class. You must pass a multiple choice test at the DMV to get your permit. A valid SC motorcycle permit is required for testing at the end of class. If your permit has expired, retake the written test at the DMV—though they won’t issue a new permit, your passing score will be recorded so you can attend class. For DMV issues, call (864) 881-2031.

Drivers Licenses points check:
The SC DMV accepts many MSF rider safety courses for points reduction. Check your license points using this link if you’re unsure.

The process is straightforward and does not require a fee if the point summary option is selected.
eCourse Required:
Check your registration date email from “noreply-res@msf-usa.org” for your eCourse reservation, username, and password. If you can’t find it, contact URT at (864) 881-2031.
The eCourse takes up to 6 hours and can be completed in sections. We recommend 1–2 hour sessions; your progress will be saved each time.
DMV Points Reduction:
The DMV permits up to a 4-point reduction on a South Carolina license upon completion of certain MSF rider courses. Unused points do not carry over and driver/riders can only use this program once every three years.
GEAR TO BRING TO CLASS:
- Valid SC motorcycle permit
- DOT helmet (covers ears) with shield or glasses
- Long-sleeve shirt/jacket (weather-appropriate)
- Long pants
- Sturdy over-the-ankle shoes/boots (no canvas)
- Full-finger gloves
- Eye protection (if helmet lacks shield)
- Ability to balance and ride a bicycle
- Rain suit if rain expected
The RULE on the range is “no skin visible” while on the bike. We take rider safety very seriously, if you arrive without the necessary gear, you will not ride. ATGATT (All the Gear, All the Time!)
